Toucan
Toucan's Lament
Me:
“Toucan, with colors so bold,
do you see the world unravel, unfold?
Forests shrink, rivers dry,
beneath the gray and ashen sky.”
Toucan:
“I see it all—the scars, the smoke,
the fractured limbs, the trees you broke.
Yet still I soar, my feathers bold,
to shield what’s left, to keep the hold.”
Me:
“But does the loss not weigh you down?
The hollow calls, the burning ground?
How do you sing, how do you fly,
while all you love is passing by?”
Toucan:
“I fly to paint the sky once more,
for life that was and what’s in store.”
Print on matte paper.
